The Hervey Bay Boat Club Fishing and Social Club is one of the largest fishing clubs in South East Queensland, with a current membership of over 250 members and a junior membership of 30. The club is based at the Hervey Bay Boat Club, Buccaneer Drive, Urangan.

The club conducts both fishing and social events and supports charitable organisations including the Queensland Cancer Fund, the Salvation Army Red Shield appeal, the Fraser Coast Fish Stocking Association and Volunteer Marine Rescue Hervey Bay.

A members monthly fishing competition is conducted usually the first weekend of the month, with a weigh-in at the Boat Club on the Sunday at 2pm followed by a sausage sizzle and presentation of prizes.

An annual fishing competition - the 'Jack Cain Memorial Challenge' - between the Club and the Power Boat Squadron is held, usually in May.

A Salt Water inter-club competition is held in June with all clubs in the district participating and taking turns in hosting the event.

New members are made most welcome in the club, but only current members of the Boat Club are eligible to apply. Membership fee is $5.00. For further information contact the .

20th Hervey Bay Family Fishing Competition 2012 organised by the Hervey Bay Boat Club Fishing and Social Club will be held from Thursday, March 8 to Sunday, March 11 2012 at Dayman Park in Pulgul Street, Urangan, Hervey Bay. There will be hundreds of prizes to win and you don't even have to catch a fish to be in the running for most of them.

Many entrants don't fish at all and simply go along to enjoy the atmosphere at the presentations, partake in the food and refreshments, perhaps win two boats, a computer, one of hundreds of prizes in the lucky draws or the $1000 cash drawn every day sponsored by the Boat Club.

Draws and presentation times are Thursday, Friday and Saturday 6pm to about 8pm and Sunday 12noon to about 3pm and entry fees are seniors $30 and juniors $10.

There will be a licensed bar and this years catering will be done again by 'members of the Rotary Club of Hervey Bay Sunrise' and they will provide plenty of hot food for everyone.

The live weigh-in will again be sponsored by Fisherman's Corner Hervey Bay with eligible species flathead (live only), bream and whiting.

Species of fish eligible for the dead weigh-in are whiting, blackall, bream, golden travally and coral bream and also for the seniors an 'any other species category' (excluding flathead, cod, spanish mackeral, shark and ray).

The entrant with the heaviest fish in the any other category will receive $1000 sponsored by Bay Auto Electrical and there will be other daily bonus prizes.

Thanks to the excellent support and generosity of local business houses the competition has been a huge sucess each year, so make plans now to enter this popular competition.

Entry forms will soon be available at Tackle shops in Hervey Bay and Maryborough, at the Chronicle offices and at the Boat Club and Sporties or phone 4194 1907, mobile 0412 635 887 as well as on this website, here.
